Working inside a Smart Building.

What is a smart building? A 'smart' building relies on technology to control and monitor the environment and usage of resources. The goal of a "smart" building is to make it more efficient, sustainable, safe, comfortable, flexible, and productive.

A smart building can be anything from office space to a warehouse or retail store. But there are many benefits that come with being in one! For example, higher worker productivity, lower energy consumption costs for utilities like heating/cooling/lighting, healthier employees due to improved indoor air quality (less outside contaminants), increased comfort through better temperature management, etc.

Smart buildings can be a great way for you and your company to benefit from the resources they offer. Depending on what position we hold at our job, there may be some unique ways that smart building could help us stay productive in an increasingly competitive environment. An example of this would be, a typical office worker's day begins when walk through the door using their Smartphone to gain access inside. After making a quick coffee run from the breakroom you head to your office where the temperature is set to your preference, your blinds open up to let natural light in and turn off the lights to conserve energy. As you leave for lunch your lights and air conditioning turn off to conserve energy, over a course of a year this saves on average 30% on utilities when spaces are unoccupied. As you get back to work as your day goes along the sun is no longer lighting up your office a d your lights turn on to brighten up your workspace. It's 2 pm and theirs a meeting in the conference room. You take your seat, the blind automation close (we don't need you to be distracted by mother nature, do we? 😉) The lights dim, and the most exciting safety training video begins, just kidding, it's the weekly sales numbers meeting. After all the excitement in the conference room, you head back to your office to finish some last-minute paperwork and then to head out the door.

A warehouse worker day may not be as exciting as a day in an office working in the conference room but who else is to blame when an order that was placed 5 minutes ago isn't on the truck that left an hour ago? ;). With a fun-filled day ahead you arrive a the front gates, the gates automatically open up, and drive through and park. As you make your way in you notice a hole in the fence. You head to your office and look at the overnight security camera logs.

You see at 1 am that a person is approaching the building, as they get closer the anti-intruder detection is engaged, warning alarms go off and lights inside the building turn on. the guys run away. Now that everything is clear you look at your smart building tablet to see how everything is working. You can track every forklift and see where every truck that is making deliveries is at. With CBAS you can track every asset and see in real-time where they are at. Asset tracking and building security are very important in bringing your company into the 21st Century.
